60th Anniversary

The dinner on Saturday May 30 at the Cowra Aero Club saw just over 80 attending what was a great night with guest speaker retired Air Marshal Jake Newham.

Jake served in several fighter squadrons in Australia, Korea, Malta, Malaysia. He has been Chief Flying Instructor at the Fighter Operational Training Unit. He commanded the WA University Squqdron, No 3 Fighter Squadron on its re-equipment with Mirage aircraft and No. 82 Strike Wing on it’s re-equipment with F111’s. He flew the first of these aircraft to Australia after a period of familiarisation in the USA.

His Staff appointments included a tour as Head of the Australian Defence Staff at Washington D.C.

He has served as Deputy Chief of Air Staff and later as Chief of Air Staff. He retired in the late 1980’s.
